California Health Interview Survey (CHIS) 2005 data available on line
The CHIS website (AskCHIS) now offers data from the 2005 cycle of CHIS, including nearly one hundred of the most frequently used CHIS topics. Additional waves of data variables will be released in upcoming weeks. Asthma prevalence measures from the 2005 CHIS data show that 1 in 6 children has been diagnosed with asthma, up from 1 in 7 in 2003. Additionally, with CHIS 2005 sample design changes were introduced in how the states geography was stratified. In CHIS 2001 and 2003, a total of 33 counties were individually sampled, and the remaining counties were grouped in pairs or multiples. Beginning with CHIS 2005, a total of 41 counties were individually sampled with the remaining 17 counties grouped. The counties newly available for individual estimates are Humboldt, Monterey, San Benito, Nevada, Mendocino, Lake, Sutter, and Yuba.
