Northern California Center for Well Being“Para Respirar Mejor: To Breathe Better”, is a project working to reduce environmental triggers in multi-unit housing complexes in Latino communities burdened by Asthma. Both by providing community education using Promotores de Salud to link residents of MUH complexes to resources to help them address IAQ factors in their homes as well as to supporting the property managers in developing IAQ policies at the residential sites.

San Francisco Asthma Task Force“Healthy Homes for All” will train Housing Rights Commission of San Francisco staff, volunteers and community leaders on the connection between asthma and substandard housing. They will hold informational clinics with Bay View Hunters Point renters to share resources regarding IAQ issues and substandard housing providing direct case management to families seeking help. Together HRCSF staff will work with BVHP renters to gather information and community support to inform policy changes at the San Francisco’s Housing Authority related to asthma and housing.

The Rose Foundation“New Voices are Rising” is a youth-focused environmental justice and civic engagement project that works in high school districts in Oakland and Richmond focusing on schools which serve predominantly low-income students and students of color. Staff provides in-class curriculum on environmental justice issues that impact student communities, with particular emphasis on air quality issues that contribute to disproportionately high asthma rates. The project then offers the students the opportunity to take action to address a specific issue by writing letters, attending regulatory meetings, and testifying in person in collaboration with existing campaigns organized by community partners.
