Making Your Voice Heard: Media Advocacy and Policymaker Engagement

RAMP’s first webinar, “Making Your Voice Heard: Media Advocacy and Policymaker Engagement,” featured Susan Frank, Executive Vice President of The Better World Group, an environmental policy and strategic communications firm. Susan discussed policymaker engagement and media advocacy, two important issues that often go hand in hand. On the webinar participants learned about:

  • A variety of media strategies that asthma coalitions and programs can tailor to fit a variety of needs to get the media to cover critical issues
  • How to take advantage of social media to increase the power of messages
  • Methods to outreach and educated policymakers – key stakeholders in creating healthier communities.

Susan Frank is known statewide for her expertise in public policy development, coalition management, and nonprofit lobbying/advocacy. Her current project work includes coordinating a large network of environmental and public interest groups from 7 western states and 4 Canadian provinces participating in the Western Climate Initiative process, and providing air quality policy advice to a large California transportation agency as well as to a number of regional and statewide environmental organizations and coalitions.
