ASTHO Offers Transportation Policy Guides to Improve Community Health

The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) has developed an innovative series of transportation, land use, and community design policy guides. These cross-sector, evidence-based resources aim to educate and empower public health leaders to promote a Health in All Policies (HiAP) approach to policymaking and program development. The guides were developed using multiple resources from credible sources that catalogue policies linking transportation and health issues such as asthma. Other sources of information include CDC, national transportation experts, and ASTHO’s HiAP Steering Committee and Advisory Groups. For each concept, there is a summary of specific policies and resources that have been shown to promote heath when they were implemented in regions around the country.
